ATRI's research into alternative methods for computer access is based on measuring performance on actual writing or drawing tasks. It is our belief that the best measure of assistive technology outcomes is to examine the ability of people to perform tasks, not to measure how well they use the technology.
The linked drawings are jpg images of the mechanically similar images used in our graphical task studies. The images are all produced and reproduced using Canvas 7, from ACD Systems of America (Formerly Deneba).
For Text generation tasks, our standard protocol asks individuals to type from source document for specific intervals, and to measure the words per minute typed. We have prepared several source documents for this research, which can be found below. The documents, which are in the public domain, are Microsoft Word documents, and are divided into segments of approximately 500 words.
