Read Text From PDF Files
- These two tools combine to allow text to be read aloud from PDF files, provided the right programs are available. The buttons are programmed using AutoIT, and assume that you have installed Microsoft Office 2003, Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1, and WordQ using standard installs.
- RunPrograms
- Double-clicking this macro will run Microsoft Word, Acrobat Reader, and WordQ, and return the focus to Acrobat Reader. After clicking this button, be sure to allow enough time for the programs to load fully, or the "Read Text in Word" button will not operate correctly.
- Read Text in Word
- To use this button, first open a PDF file in Acrobat Reader 8.1. Use the mouse or keyboard commands to highlight (select) a paragraph to be read. Double-click the "Read Text in Word" button.
- When activated, the button will copy the highlighted content from the PDF file, and paste the text into Word. By default, each line of the PDF file is a new paragraph, and WordQ automatically stops at the end of a paragraph. So, the macro also reformats the text to remove all "end-of-line" characters, and replaces them with spaces, so that the paragraph is now a paragraph in Word as well.
- Finally, the macro activates the "read aloud" capability of WordQ, which causes the text to be read, and each word to be highlighted as it is spoken. Once the paragraph has finished reading, it is left highlighted, so that the next paragraph to be read will replace it.
